Kayaking in Sarawak

The last time i paddled a canoe was when i was in my 2nd year of Uni in Adelaide. Part of my semester's subject which to pass you had to go on a 2 day canoeing/camping trip. It was not funny trying to navigate through fast current when you only learned how to canoe 2 hours before. So my hesitation was comprehendable when 'love of my life' suggests we go kayaking.

Thank god the river was mild, it didn't rain so there was no strong current. He booked through Kayak Adventure, i think. Pick up was at 8am (yes, you actually have to wake up early..though we woke up like 10mins before). They drove us up to the foot of Borneo Highlands where we started paddling from a small village (cant remember the name...still groggy from lack of sleep). The package includes kayak, paddle, lifejacket rental, a guide and a lunch consist of sandwiches and water. Being local, i guess the guide didnt have to do much work in explaining shit to us. Maybe to Nick who was English.

We stop by a waterfall, another small village, a small nook for a swim, pass by a homestay and end up at a nice shallow stream of another small village for another dip. All in all the paddling was for around 3hours. Make sure you put on sunblocks. We paddled slow from lack of sleep..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Best of all, at the end of the trip, the guide's partner turns out to be a relative who recognized me but i not him...2nd or 3rd cousin...go figure!! Kind of make you wanna smack yourself in the head for uttering stuff not meant for relative's guide friend's ear throughout the trip ;P
