Shopping Online

I must admit, I am considered a virgin on shopping online. The only thing I've purchased online was air tickets and one bid on Lelong.com.my and a football jersey for my beloved's birthday last year. I love to scroll through the FB albums and blogs selling uber sexy pretty clothes but a bit skeptical if they would actually look as good or fit in reality. Being stuck in the middle of nowhere for now since July however has made shopping online a necessity for this coming Raya.

My first purchase for 2010? Beautiful bracelet and anklet by Qacaq.com as a birthday present for myself. But I wouldn't consider this as an online purchase since I know the owners personally. Regardless, I received my custom made accessories and loving each piece. Thank you Rina!!! Saving them for raya so will update this post with pictures later. My bracelet has an 'R' charm courtesy of Ms Rina. Thanks Babe!!

Second purchase would be baju kurung pahang cotton from Ampaian Kapas. I have no idea what a Baju Kurung Pahang is but beggars can't be choosers eh, not like I have any other choice in Teluk Ramunia :D Hopefully it would be delivered in time for Raya, if not I guess it's last minute shopping in Kuching it'll be. I know the craze for cotton baju kurung is so totally in the rage now, funny how trends comes back again, I used to have them when I was in primary and high school. Maybe I should dig them old clothes up eh...

Back to Oblivion

Yes, I am back in Teluk Ramunia for another short term assignment from Mid July till September. However this time instead of staying at the hotel, i get a 2 bedroom service apartment (which is hardly serviced booooooo!!, but to be fair to Sebana Resort management, it's not under them, it was privately owned) and a car. So compared to my first 3 weeks in oblivion, this one is much more enjoyable although i do miss the daily room service, now i have to drive to the clubhouse.

At least I get a living room instead of stuck in the hotel room on weekends
Apparently private owner has a yatch ;)
I still cant get over this post...

I get to drive around too and thanks to Googlemaps, i even managed to drive to Jusco Tebrau City and catch Eclipse. Cant believe I drove one and half hours to see a 2 hour  movie and drive back another one and a half hour....But Jacob's ABS was worth it :p And driving to Senai Airport via the Senai Desaru Highway was also a breeze...the rm3.70 toll was so totally worth it! SYABAS SDE.

The Last Lecture- Achieving Your Childhood Dream by Dr Randy Pausch

A friend of mine shared this link on his FB Wall and I'm totally inspired by it. Such a positive outlook on life and how everyone should live. Live your life the right way and karma will work its own way...

Phrases from the clip i love:
1. Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted
2. Brickwall are there for a reasons: they let us prove how bad we want things
3. To achieve your dreams you must have great parents
4. Importance of People vs Things
5. Decide if your are a TIGGER or an EYORE
6. Work and Play well with others
7. Dont complain: Just work harder

That was a condensed version on OPRAH, for the full lecture, please click this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo&feature=related

Rainforest World Music Festival 2010

This year's RWMF was pretty subdued. Why? Because I wasn't in the midst of the hoo haa crowd but actually working my butt off feeding the hoo haa crowd. MY darling sister and future brother in law decided " Let's open a Mana Mana Cafe stall at this year's festival". Lo and behold free labour comes in the form of family, think of it as amal jariah she said. SHELL must seriously not be paying me enough ;)

Let's just say it was an experience not to be repeated. However, I discovered I have exceptional talent at making burgers at incredible speed. Till today, I refuse to even look at another burger.Truth be told, I'd do it again, just not in the immediate future SISTER!!

Active Defensive Driving

Part of the requirement to enable me to drive a car provided by the company was to obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate. Thus registered myself for one in June. Having driven since high school and also having had an ex who was a petrol head, I was kinda cocky about cars and assumed that the course was gonna be boring. Boy, was I wrong.

Held at BSTS, Miri, the course last one whole day starting from 8am till 5pm. It consists of classroom teaching, hands on lessons and also written and practical tests. They also provide breakfast, lunch and tea. It cost RM750 (I dont know if that is corporate rate or open for public too).

First, we had to do a written exam, testing our knowledge on what the course had to offer. (Note: We have to resit this at the end of the course and believe me there were many "I didnt know that" moments). Then came the lecture and informative videos on what's requisite in a good driver and how to excel in defensive driving. Most profound were the videos on accidents, its impact and what actually occurs was quite an eye opener. Let's just say seat belts for my passengers, front and rear are a must after that. (A ride on the crash simulator was also convincing)

Then the fun part, we learned how to steer with Push and Pull TEchnique, activate ABS, Emergency Braking - Stomp, Steer and Stay. Just like video!! Trust me, having someone yelled at you to brake when the cone is 5inch from the car is a heart attack waiting to happen. I may have triggered one in my instructor :D

After lunch, we learned about car parts and maintenance. Especially useful before a long journey. Always remember the acronym POWER (Power Oil Water Electricity Rubber) and that is what you check for. Next, each of us had to drive around with the instructor while giving commentary on what we applied from the morning lessons. Trust me, commentary driving sucks!! (Tip: When the instructor hints to you that it looks like its going to rain with the cloudy sky, you are suppose to switch on your lights for visibility to other. Do not response by saying "I think I'll make it back before it rains" like me.)

Finally its back to the classroom for a shot at PS2 GT4 Game. No, it wasnt for fun, the instructor will actually talk to you while you are driving. Why?? To show you that you cant concentrate on the road while talking to someone i.e. ON THE PHONE! But I actually did pretty good.So he concluded either its because I'm a gamer or women are better at multitasking. I wonder if that excuse will let me off the hook from the cops. :D Then we had a crack at their beer goggle and tried to kick a ball while wearing one. I think they overrated that bit, I use to play futsal after happy hour.

Overall, if you have extra pennies or your company pays for your training this is one course that I highly recommend. Actually Malaysian Government should make it a pre-requisite before awarding driving license as in many developed country. Sure would help reduce the statistics. Food for thought.
